Clash representations

PREP Write freely about the house style of Clash music magazine. Your focus is on 'media language', that is, how the musicians are represented, layout, font, colour and so on.

CLASH is a magazine that has a bold and different message it aims to portray, it does this through it's use of bold colour but minimalist front cover. The representation of musicians is one that differs form other music magazines such as MOJO, they are presented as mysterious and almost more intriguing. For example, the front cover of Danny Brown portrays him as a very closed character, from the shot of half is face as a shadow. This style is continuous through the other covers, all portray the artists as secretive and concealing their side they perhaps do not show to the public. The artists are also presented as superior to us as ' normal' citizens without famous status;for example, Matt from the 1975 is shown as looking quite holy and not making eye contact with us as readers, maybe because he sees himself as superior. Zayn also looks down at us and we do not see his whole face just a shadow, which implies that the magazine may aim to create a divide between the readers and those who are being photographed. The representations are counter stereotypes, usually the artists are making direct eye contact with the readers to grab their attention. However, the magazine has the same effect as the they are not making eye contact, so this entices the readers to what else is unique about their magazine.

CLASH also has a very well organised format which connotes formality but fits well with the theme the magazine aims to display , this theme could be the celebration of music and how different each artist, genre and personality are. The font used is in capital letters which highlights the importance of the magazine and makes the magazine more appealing to readers. There is also little clutter on the page which makes it appear more sophisticated and implies that the magazine has information which could be valid and useful to music lovers.

Astute comments with especially intelligent choice of adjectives (bold, minimalist, intriguing, mysterious).
Note that it's= it is (you want the possessive adjective its, no apostrophe, as the apostrophe marks a missing letter).
You know that the exam board looks for a discussion of stereotypes and you analyse this well.
Instead of 'The font used is in capital letters ', write 'the masthead is in sans-serif bold, font that is blocky and pared-down'. Good comments on the uncluttered layout.
