Lego movie ad break representations

The Lego movie ad break incorporates many well known companies who aim to further their promotion of their company or product. The use of well known advertisements/ trusted brands appeals to a wide audience, particularly older audiences who will use companies like BT and premier inn. This will increase the amount of people who use the companies and will therefore increase revenue (5% uplift). The trusted brands represent reliability and equality and is what makes them trusted brands and more appealing as remakes with lego. Another representation through ad breaks is humour, this is shown through the use of the lego figures, as it is replicating real adverts and could have an element of humour to many adults and even recognisable to younger people. At the end of the advert the lego movie itself is shown, this would entice many people, especially younger people to watch the film. Emmet is represented challenges the male stereotype and demonstrates fear whereas Wyldstyle is presented as a strong woman and very dominant. This contrasts completely to Emmet's character and coincides with the very feminist society today; which would therefore, appeal to a wide audience.

Refer to Extract 1 in the insert. Analyse the representation of Jamaican Reggae music and

musicians such as Bob Marley in this MOJO front cover. (5 marks)

Jamaican Reggae music is presented as lively and different to any other type of music. This is shown through the stand out colours of the red, green and yellow; this differs from the conventional MOJO magazine where typically male men are shown to be serious and perhaps cold. Bob Marley is presented as warm and opening, his stance connotes an inviting tone which appeals to a variety of audiences. The pull quote that states ' from gang to one love' highlights the importance of peace to Bob and the reggae music;it is again inviting to audiences and expresses the idea that music can have a positive impact on life. ' one love' is also a reference to one of Bob Marley's songs which would draw his fans in to the magazine as they see a relation to the magazine and Bob's inspiration to his songs. The cover of the CD which states ' Jamaican explosion' adds an element of culture to front cover and the hyperbolic language of ' explosion' further appeals to the reader as they are intrigued to see what cultural importance the picture shows.

MOJO magazine is a rock magazine that is mainly aimed at older men who have an interest in rock music. By having Joni Mitchell smiling, it connotes a friendly and welcoming cover that may not only appeal to the typical MOJO audience but a different one too. Although the presentation of Joni is positive there is a quote underneath that creates a contrasting view of being a rock star. By describing her 'gift' as a 'tragedy' it displays the reality of being in the limelight and perhaps the pressure that brings; the black and white colours connotes seriousness and a sense of formality but also may hint at the darker thoughts behind her life. 

The reference to other artists such as David Bowie pull readers into the content within the magazine , ' untold story!...betrayal' are key quotes that may appeal to potential readers. David Bowie is someoen who was seen to have a great deal pf strength and is very well known by all audiences. This would make readers want to read the 'untold stories' as David Bowie was and still is a very well known artist.

Revision Q1 CUFFS

 Analyse how camerawork is used in the extract to create meaning. Refer to at least two examples from the extract in your answer.
Worth 4 marks. Write half a side of A4. 

Camerawork is used in Cuffs to create tension between characters. For example, Jake is the son of the Chief of Police and his dad is the reason he has the job in the police force. It is clear that Ryan doesn't agree with the way he has got his job, he believes that Jake should have worked as hard as he did to gain his job. This is shown through the camera work used Ryan makes the comment ' we don't care what people's parents do', the audience then see a focus pull which shows Jake's face. This creates the idea that he is  embarrassed as we see a focus on the other people around him as well as him himself. 

Camerawork is also used when Jo reflects on the affair she had with the chief of police, she realizes it was a mistake. This is clear as a close up shot is used to illustrate the raw variety of emotion she feels, emotions such as regret, embarrassment and hurt. The light is also used to emphasize this, the lighting is harsh and dark to show the level of hurt she feels.Camerawork is also used to create meaning in the lunch room, a shot reverse shot is used to show the urgency and the lack of time they have to even talk. This creates a sense of realism as many police officers don't have time to rest, it also shows how the characters are bonding with one another.There is a constant flow of conversation emphasized by the use of the shot reverse shot.

The lighting is very natural which suggest a normal mise-en-scene that is trying to be created. This makes it more relatable for the audience

This is a very ordinary scene with relatable characters for the audience, the audience feel they can relate because they're doing very normal things.
